Clubs & Activities
Harrison Hill offers a large number of fun school activities and clubs. Learn more about them below.
Cheer
The cheerleading squad consists of twelve 4th and 5th grade students that are chosen through a try-out process.
Cheerleaders cheer at basketball games, both home and away.
We have so much fun practicing and cheering at games together!
Choir
The Harrison Hill choir is made up of 4th and 5th grade students who choose to meet during their recess time once a week. Students prepare songs to be performed at the Winter and Spring concerts. Last year, the Harrison Hill choir performed on Sounds of the Season, a holiday special shown on WANE TV.
Cross Country
Running club is made up of students from grades first through fifth that enjoy running.
The running club is similar to cross country in that we practice endurance runs and compete on an open terrain course at Wayne High School.
The goal is to inspire children to become future runners in the sport.
Math Bowl
Math Bowl is a team made up of 4th and 5th grade students that enjoy math and problem solving. We learn how to solve upper elementary and middle school math problems. Then we compete against teams across the state of Indiana.
Robotics
A competitive team that 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders can try-out for.
The team builds and programs robots to compete against other elementary schools.
Besides programming and building the robots, the team also focuses on teamwork, cooperation, problem solving, and creativity.
Science Fair
The Science Fair Committee meets each year to plan the details for the annual school Science Fair. We encourage all students to participate and complete a Science Fair Project and a special emphasis is placed on our 4th and 5th grade students. The Committee provides resources for students and for teachers that includes project ideas, websites and other useful information. The Committee plans when the Science Fair will take place and works to bring in a select group of judges to help assess the projects. The judges also get a chance to speak with students so they really understand the thinking that went into the projects. The Committee works with the judges to choose winners for each grade level and to provide winners and participants with certificates and ribbons.
Spell Bowl
Each year, hundreds of schools from around the state participate in the Indiana Association of School Principal’s Spell Bowl Competition.
4th and 5th grade students at Harrison Hill spend time throughout the fall studying from a list of over 500 words.
Students compete as a team of eight students against other schools of similar enrollment for regional awards and overall state placement.
Harrison Hill has won the Yellow Division several years in a row at the regional level and received the top score in 2018 for any northeast Indiana elementary school! Go Hawks!
Young Authors
Literacy through writing. Students participate to create an original piece of literature. Books are judged with a writing rubric to determine TOP GRAND PRIZE winners at each grade level. IRA, Indiana Reading Association along with Allen County, sponsors and holds an annual celebration with award winning authors. The local branch in Allen County, invites a professional author to share their writing process with the winners attending the conference. K-2 and 3-5 grade levels rotate from year-to-year to attend the annual conference held in Fort Wayne.
